April 2026 DIY: Water Safety Awareness Kits

In recognition of National Water Safety Month, HandsOn South Florida is mobilizing volunteers to help promote safe behaviors in and around water as we approach the summer season. Water safety awareness plays a critical role in preventing drowning and ensuring that children and families are equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to stay safe.

These Water Safety Awareness Kits will be distributed to children and families participating in the Summer BreakSpot program, which provides nutritious meals at no cost to youth 18 and under while school is out. Operating at accessible locations such as parks, libraries, and community centers, Summer BreakSpot helps bridge the hunger gap while connecting families to valuable resources.

In support of this effort, volunteers will assemble Water Safety Awareness Kits that include essential swim items and educational materials focused on supervision, sun protection, and water safety practices. These kits are designed to provide practical tools and easy-to-understand information that families can use during visits to pools, beaches, lakes, and splash pads—helping to create safer, more enjoyable summer experiences for all. Small actions taken in April can prevent tragedies during peak swim season.
